Kelsey Lake is appearing in The Light in the Piazza at the Sheen Center in NYC. The production is directed by Tony-award winner Victoria Clark. The musical is a department production in Pace Performing Art’s season this fall. Piazza runs from October 29th - November 8th (October 29-31 @ 7:30pm; November 1-2 @ 2:00pm and 7:30pm; November 5-7 @ 7:30pm; November 8 @ 2:00pm and 7:30pm).
The Light in the Piazza received the Tony Award for Best Original Score, written by composer Adam Guettel. Craig Lucas wrote the book, which is based off of a novella by Elizabeth Spencer. The story revolves around Margaret Johnson, a middle-aged woman from North Carolina who travels to Italy with her daughter, Clara, who is “very young for her age.”
Victoria Clark is the artist in residence for the musical theater department at Pace University this year. On top of directing The Light in the Piazza, she will also be teaching different master classes at Pace throughout the school year. Ms. Clark won a Tony for her portrayal of Margaret Johnson in the original production of Piazza. “The thought of spending time again with this piece I so loved was like being invited on vacation with my best friend for six weeks,” says Ms. Clark in an article she wrote for Theatermania about directing the piece.
The Sheen Center is a brand new performance space on Bleecker Street with a proscenium mainstage, a black box theater, and four rehearsal studios. Space at the Sheen Center can be rented via their website: http://sheencenter.org/
